Specialties
Bipolar and other
mood disorders
Bipolar disorder has specific symptoms to be targeted but can vary from person to person. Other mood disorders such as cyclothymia and premenstrual dysphoric disorder also benefit from evidence-based practices. I apply ACT, DBT, IPSRT, and psychodynamic therapy with an interpersonal and relational focus.
AANHPI
mental health
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islanders face issues such as acculturative stress, cultural double binds, intergenerational trauma, and racism. Being culturally responsive while having a social justice lens in my practice is integral to addressing such problems.
Young/emerging
adult concerns
As a unique developmental period, emerging adulthood can give rise to concerns such as identity confusion, relationship instability, emotional challenges, and difficulties with life skills. I provide support towards achieving milestones, establishing independence, and developing a stronger sense of identity.
Marginalized group
empowerment
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color are among historically marginalized communities including but not limited to those who identify LGBTQIA+ or have a disability status. Part of this work involves acknowledging my own biases and privileges while challenging systems of oppression.
Life transition
challenges
Life transitions include adjustment to school/college, new job, marriage, parenthood, retirement/job loss, and relocation. Anxiety and stress among other challenges can be experienced with such transitions. I encourage use of coping skills and added social support while processing difficult emotions.
Cultural identity
development
Cultural identity can include age, disability status, religion, ethnicity and race, socioeconomic status, indigenous origin, natinality, sexual orientation, and gender (Hays, 1996, 2008). I recognize the complexities and nuances of intersectional identities, helping to integrate these parts of self into a cohesive whole.
